struggling with shoulder pain from sleeping. any advice other than obviously not sleeping on that shoulder? I keep sleeping on it and then wake up in pain. idk why sleep me is doing this?? like if I bring my arms up for a fly it's in the back area of my shoulder. tried to do lying down reverse flies this morning and I can't. my shoulder mobility is super limited in my right one lately because of sleep

musclemeeple2 try using a sweatshirt or small blanket, ect instead of a pillow...allows you more variability of size/shape...see if you can position yourself on the side you naturally want to sleep on in such a way as to be comfortable for the shoulder

Kogre I used to get crumpled shoulders from sleeping on my side on rubbish mattresses. Replace it and hopefully you get on better. I know I did and my shoulders are a lot bigger than they used to be.

Kogre Maybe it's not the age of the mattress, but the type. There are some made (just like pillows) specifically for side sleepers.

jb767 As a side sleeper, I had a similar experience for months on end several years ago. Tried 2 pillows, one of those wedge pillows (made it worse), tried 3 pillows. The best for me was making a T with a king pillow long ways to my waste with regular pillow on top. This traded shoulder pain for some side-stitch/hip discomfort but that helped. I also bought bed slats off of Amazon for like $30 (flat pieces of wood sewn together with fabric that roll out like a board with the slats perpendicular to your body) for more support under the mattress. I was eventually able to get over the nagging pain and can now sleep with 1 pillow or sometimes 2. It was killing me that my “injury” had nothing to do with working out but was a sleep issue.

You need to fix the mattress/bed/pillow issue before doing anything intense with the weights.

richnce I am also struggling but even with b
coffin sleep. I have some impingement on my right, so I get that, but both are stiff and painful for the first 4 hours of my day. I had a surgery on the left years ago but the impingement is on the right. I would love a solution to this so I can confidently push my bench and shoulder press.

jb767 Also, try sticking your elbow out in front of your chin with palm up under your pillow, so that inside of your arm/bicep is facing up. That could gently transition you to partially sleeping on your back to take some strain off.

Should have said above to turn the mattress and check out your box spring / bed frame for damage or wear and try turning them too. The bed slats purchase went under the box spring.

MichaelWood Typically it can be one of the 4 rotator cuff muscles that is tight or injured. Sleep issues with Shld is usually this area ...have you checked out your shoulder yet to determine the cause ?
